Garage doors come in many sizes, when having a new door installed it is critical that you use the right size door.

Step 1 - Measure the size of your existing garage door from the inside.

Width____________  Height_____________

Step 1 Cont' - Measure the actual opening of your garage, with the trim boards on your garage you want the door size to be approximately 1 inch less than the opening.

Width____________  Height_____________

Garage doors come in 3 inch incriments.....if your opening is 6 Ft 9 Inch tall and you install a 7 Ft tall door you may loose some of the panel design.

Typical garage door sizes are 8 x 7, 9 x 7 and 16 x 7.....Doors are available in any size, the question is availability.

8 Ft tall garage doors are becoming more common and usually available from normal stock.

Step 2  Measure the sideroom, a minimum of 3 1/2 inches is needed for the vertical track to be installed.

Check to see that the back jamb is in good shape and not dry rotted

Left Side room_________   Right Side room__________

Step 3 - Measure the head room from the top of the garage door to the first obstruction.

Headroom____________

13 inches of headroom is required for a standard 12 in radius track with Torsion Spring.

Step 4 - Measure the Backroom to the first obstruction.

Step 5 - Check the concrete at the bottom of the door.  If you have un level concrete you may require a larger bottom seal on the door to ensure a solid tight seal when the door is down.
